This page explains how articles on SeatbeltsAreForEveryone.org are researched, written, reviewed, and corrected.
Who writes the articles
Articles are written and reviewed by Cesar Marroquin, who runs the site. Each article shows the author’s name and the date it was last reviewed. We are not lawyers, insurance agents, or medical professionals, and nothing here is legal, insurance, or medical advice.
Sources we rely on
We base facts and figures on primary or expert sources and link to them in every article:
- Crash and belt-use data: the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), including FARS crash data and the National Occupant Protection Use Survey (NOPUS)
- State laws: the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) law tables, the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), and state statutes and DMV or highway safety office pages
- Insurance practices: insurer consumer guides and industry sources, attributed by name
If we cannot confirm a number in one of these sources, we leave it out. We do not publish estimates presented as facts.
Review and updates
- Before publishing, the author checks every figure and state law against the linked source.
- State-by-state tables note the date of the source they were built from.
- We review articles about laws at least once a year, and sooner when IIHS or GHSA report changes. The “Last reviewed” date shows when an article was last checked.
Use of software tools
We may use software tools, including AI tools, to help with research, outlines, or editing. A person checks every published article against the sources, edits it, and is responsible for it. We do not publish articles without that review.
Corrections
If you find an error, email [email protected] with the page and, if you can, a link to the source. When we correct a factual error, we update the page and change its “Last reviewed” date. If the correction is significant, we add a short note to the article explaining what changed.
Independence
This site is independent. It is not affiliated with DCCCA, Inc., the Oklahoma SAFE program, or any government agency (see About). Advertisers and affiliate partners have no say over what we publish (see our affiliate disclosure).
